During the last weekend it took place in Lisbon the second edition of the European Wine Bloggers Conference. As it had happened last year, I had a lot of fun, I met bunches of new people and drunk many many Portuguese wines. Later this week I’ll make another post with my thoughts about the the conference.
What I want to show you now is the video I made while visiting Amorim’s (biggest cork producer) factory in Coruche, where I learnt a bit more of TCA problem. A little percentage of bottles with natural cork will always have TCA taste. TCA is everywhere, in beer, water, plastic, fruits and though it can be controlled, it can’t be eliminated. So Quevedo will continue to have some corked bottles. Yes, we will. I know these are bad news but we prefer to have between 2% to 3% of our bottles corked than using plastic corks, more pollutant and lacking capacity for aging our wines. Something crucial for Port!
But this is me, and I had already talked about cork for Port last year. What you think about using natural cork, plastic cork or screw caps in your preferred wines?

Durante o fim-de-semana passado teve lugar em Lisboa a segunda edição da Conferência Europeia de Wine Bloggers. Tal como tinha acontecido no ano passado, diverti-me imenso, conheci muita gente e fartei-me de provar vinhos portugueses. Lá mais para o final da semana vou fazer outro post sobre a conferência.
O que quero mostrar agora é o vídeo que fiz quando visitei a fábrica da Amorim em Coruche, onde aprendi mais alguma coisa sobre o problema do TCA. Uma pequena percentagem, das garrafas com rolhas de cortiça vão sempre ter sabor a rolha. O TCA está em toda a parte, cerveja, plástico, água, fruta. E ainda que possa ser controlado, não pode ser eliminado. Por isso a Quevedo vai continuar a ter algumas garrafas com sabor a rolha. Sim, sem dúvida. Sei que não são notícias agradáveis mas preferimos que 2% ou 3% das nossas garrafas tenham este defeito do que utilizar rolhas de plástico, mais poluentes e sem capacidade para envelhecer os vinhos, característica fundamental nos Vinhos do Porto.
Mas isto sou eu a dizer e até já falei de rolha de cortiça para Vinho do Porto há uns tempos. O que é que pensa sobre a utilização de rolha de cortiça, rolha de plástico e tampa de enroscar nos seus vinhos preferidos?
