Today we will start a 3 weeks trip to the US. I’m traveling with Nadia and this intends to be a half vacation/ half business trip. I left the Douro last week, some minutes after recording the video of my last post. I spent a couple of days in Porto and then I traveled to Spain for a round of meetings in Barcelona and in Madrid.
Around 1pm of Thursday July 16th I will fly from Madrid to New York. It’s the third time I will go to NYC, and the first with the purpose to meet wine bloggers and better understand the wine consumption habits of the New Yorkers. I will probably dedicate some time for tourism, but that just if I don’t have any other wine related plan.
Still in NY, on the 22nd July evening Viniportugal hosts a Portuguese Wine Tasting in the recently opened Portuguese restaurant Aldea. We will have our new baby, the Quevedo Vintage 2007 for tasting.
On the 23rd we will fly to San Francisco, where on the morning of the 24th (my birthday) starts the American Wine Bloggers Conference. I’m so excited, I can’t wait to meet those faces I’m used to see online, with who I change emails, comments and twits. If the last years European Wine Bloggers Conference was a complete success, and we had just a couple of months experience in blogging, now there in Sonoma and Napa, exactly 1 year after our debut, we will get even more from the meeting.
From San Francisco I will fly to Seattle on July 28th, where I will visit Roy Hersh. Roy is one of the leading authorities in Port Wine in the US and I have talked about him for a handful of times here in our blog. He is organizing a tasting with other Port Wine lovers and participants in the For The Love of Port forum from Seattle’s area. I have seen in the forum and in previous offline tastings that they just bring for tasting great old Ports, which almost always show very well. This is a huge challenge for us because we will all compare Quevedo’s Ports with others from very well established houses with centuries of tradition.
We’ll finish this three week trip in Minneapolis, from July 31st to August 4th. Nadia studied there for 6 months her degree and made very good friends, who have already visited us in previous years. But as I couldn’t miss an opportunity for a meeting or a tasting, I will probably attend to a Port Wine tasting, where I’ll show our juices.
I’m looking forward to this trip. They will be 20 very intense and busy days, which I hope to leave and feel one by one, with time to breath and most important, with time to write you posts so you can know how our wines are showing in the land of Uncle Sam!

OscarHoje vou começar uma viagem de três semanas aos EUA. Viajo com a Nadia e vou procurar que seja uma viagem meia de férias meia de trabalho. Pelo menos não vou ter mais férias este Verão. Deixei o Douro na semana passada, poucos minutos depois de ter gravado o vídeo do último post. Estive dois dias pelo Porto e depois viajei para Espanha, onde tive algumas reuniões em Barcelona e em Madrid.
Por volta das 13 horas de quinta-feira vou embarcar em Madrid com destino a Nova Iorque. É a terceira vez que vou a Nova Iorque e a primeira com o objectivo de conhecer wine bloggers e compreender melhor o consumo de vinho pelos nova-iorquinos. Provavelmente dedicarei algum tempo a turismo, mas só quando não tiver nenhuma actividade relacionada com o vinho.
Ainda em Nova Iorque, no dia 22 de Julho ao final da tarde a Viniportugal vai organizar uma prova de vinhos no Aldea, um restaurante português que abriu recentemente. À prova vai estar o nosso novo menino, o Vintage 2007.
No dia 23 de manhã vou para São Francisco, onde no dia 24 (dia do meu aniversário) vai começar a Conferência Americana de Wine Bloggers. Estou ansioso, de verdade, tenho muita vontade de conhecer as caras que estão por trás dos emails, comentários e twits que envio e recebo.
De São Francisco vou para Seattle, dia 28 de Julho, onde me encontrarei com Roy Hersh. Os mais atentos ao nosso blog sabem de posts anteriores que este apaixonado pelo Vinho do Porto é um dos principais críticos nos EUA. Ele vai organizar uma prova de vinhos, com outros amantes de Vinho do Porto e participantes do fórum For the Love of Port da zona de Seattle. Pelo que vi no fórum e em encontros anteriores, para as provas levam sempre grandes Vinhos do Porto. Este é um grande desafio para nós porque vamos comparar os nossos vinhos com outros de produtores reconhecidos e com centenas de anos de tradição. Só espero que os nossos não fiquem muito atrás!!!
Esta viajem de três semanas vai acabar em Minneapolis, do dia 31 de Julho a 4 de Agosto. A Nadia estudou lá durante seis meses e temos lá bons amigos que já nos visitaram em anos anteriores. Mas como não podia perder esta oportunidade para conhecer os amantes de Vinho do Porto de Minneapolis, vou também tentar a aproveitar para organizar uma prova e fazer novos amigos.
Estou cheio de vontade de começar já esta viagem. Vão ser 20 dias intensos que espero viver e sentir um por um, com tempo para respirar e, ainda mais importante, com tempo para vos escrever posts e dar-vos a saber como se estão a portar os nossos vinhos em terras do Uncle Sam!
